ABOUT US

Abel: the son of Adam. We really only know two things about his life.
He raised livestock, and he honored God.
We plan to do the same.
We are Tom and Hailey McManus. Our grazing operation currently includes 90 acres of pasture. We currently graze a mixed bag of breeds as we allow our south pole bulls to make our herd smaller framed, and grass genetic.  Our emphasis is on working in balance with creation and keeping inputs low. To us that means:
• We use no hormone implants, no worming, no fly ear tags, no insecticide pasture back rubs. We have tree swallow bird houses installed around our farms that help with natural fly control on our livestock
• Calves and lambs are weaned naturally by their mothers
• Livestock graze rich fresh pasture and get fresh, clean water every day

We are passionate about two things, honoring our Lord Jesus and livestock.
The farm is the obvious part of the passion for livestock and raising healthy animals, building healthy soil, and producing healthy food.
We are both very involved in our local church where we serve together in the teen ministry. We love the opportunity to bring young people onto the farm to show them God's creation.

How it all began

Neither Hailey or I grew up on a farm. Hailey's grandpa was a farmer in southern Minnesota, and My grandma grew up on a farm in northern England.

When I went to university I pursued a degree in Applied Science, with the plan to go to chiropractic school afterwards.  My fascination with God's design for the body and wholistic medicine lead me down the path of understanding the quality of the fuel we give our bodies to work with. As I soon realized the way our food is raised makes a big difference in its nutrient density and how it affects our body.

This learning of the importance of the quality of our food then lead me to how do we raise it properly. Thats when I was introduced to wholistic management and rotational grazing. Our belief is this model of grazing is most in line with how God created these animals to live, most effective in creating healthy land, and produces a product that is without side effect for the consumer.
